Mustangs throttle Rebels
BIC squeezes past Greyhounds
Buffalo Island Central moved to 4-1 on the year with victories over old rival Riverside and conference foe Marmaduke last week. The Mustangs kicked things off with a 38-23 victory over Riverside Tuesday night at Lake City, completing the season sweep over the Rebels. BIC closed things out with a 46-43 Homecoming win Friday night over the Greyhounds at Monette, avenging their only loss of the season.
BIC jumped to a 9-3 lead over Riverside after the opening quarter and held a 19-7 halftime advantage. The Mustangs increased their lead to 28-11 after three periods of play.
Devin Pemberton led BIC with 10 points. Canon Walling scored nine, Jesse Fry tallied eight, Chayse Carmichael had six while Andrew McFarlin pitched in five.
Ethan Cash paced the Rebels with 16 points. Landon Moyer tallied four while Keech Wilmoth, Demo Bowers and Steven Stroud all scored one point each.
Pemberton was the top scorer for the Mustangs in their three point victory over Marmaduke, pumping in 14 points. Carmichael and Fry added nine points each.
Bryson Horton scored a game high 19 to pace the Greyhounds while Derek Agee chipped in 17 more.
Marmaduke held a 24-21 lead at the half before the Mustangs charged back to grab a 32-28 advantage heading into the final frame.
In junior high action, Riverside walloped BIC 59-14 behind the 20-point performance of Trever Mangrum. John Marcus Shinall scored nine, M.J. Wilkinson tallied six, Carl Gallapoo netted five, Ethan Boatman and Luis Tosca contributed four points each while Dawson Casey, Easton Hatch and Teddy Barnes all added three points apiece. Brennen Laird chipped in two points.
Mikey Brown and Dawson Stewart led BIC with four points apiece. Brayden Carmichel scored three, Caden Howard netted two while Grady Peel pitched in one point for the Mustangs.
BIC also fell in junior high action to Marmaduke, 56-25.
BIC will return to action Tuesday night with a road trip to Manila.
