Cash's last second heroics sends Rebels past Bay

Riverside got a late steal and score from senior guard Ethan Cash as the Rebels stunned Bay 45-43 Tuesday night on the Yellowjackets’ home court.

With the game tied 43-all, Bay played for the last shot, but Cash came away with the steal at the six second mark and raced the length of the floor before scoring the winning layup with 1.9 seconds to go. Cash’s last second heroics gave Riverside its first win of the season.

Riverside held a slim 10-9 edge after the first quarter before taking a 20-17 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Rebels increased their lead to 36-31 entering the final frame.

Cash led Riverside with a game high 20 points. Layne Austin led the Yellowjackets with 15 while Dax Gipson scored 12 and Slade Grove added 10.

Riverside also took the junior high contest 38-35 behind Ethan Boatman’s 14 points. Paiton Hartley scored a game high 16 to pace Bay.

Riverside will take to the road, traveling to Ridgefield Christian Tuesday night before playing at Armorel on Friday.
