Mustang golfers have three-peat
Buffalo Island Central captured its third consecutive Class 2A Boys State Golf Championship Tuesday at the Country Club in Conway. It marked the fourth state championship in the last five years for the Mustangs, who defeated runner-up Conway-St. Joseph by an impressive 19 strokes. BIC finished with a 255-team score in the play four, count three, format. All four Mustang golfers earned All-State honors.
Andy Milligan came in third, earning a berth in the Overall State Tournament to be held this week at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. Milligan fired an 81 to tie for second place with Spring Hill’s Colby Light. Light won on the second playoff hole to receive runner-up honors. Haven’s Grant Shelman was the individual champion with a score of 74.
Miles Gifford carded an 84 to place fifth while senior Canon Walling shot a 90 for seventh place. Andrew McFarlin finished in eighth place with a 91.
“We are very excited to win another state championship,” said Mustang Coach Justin Yates. “This was a very tough course. It was tight and the greens were small, but I thought we played well. Getting all four players in the top eight spots was huge. Winning three straight state titles is special. I am very proud of this team.”
