Junior Lions earn first win
Zac Morris accounted for two touchdowns and Jordan Spray tacked on a third, leading Manila to a 22-6 victory over Corning in junior high football action Thursday night.
It was Manila’s first victory of the season and improved the Junior Lions’ record to 1-3 in conference play.
Morris got Manila on the board with a 35-yard touchdown strike to Kurt Overton. Morris’ two-point conversion run gave the Lions an 8-0 lead.
Morris scored on a 15-yard run to up the margin to 14-0 before Spray’s eight-yard touchdown scamper and two-point conversion closed out the scoring for the Lions.
“We really moved the ball well tonight,” said Lion Coach Jerry Castor. “Jordan Spray had a 60-yard touchdown run called back, or we would have scored more. We got great blocking from our offensive line. Bo Harrison, William Carmichael, Brent Wilson, Josh Evers and John Bailey really controlled the line of scrimmage. Dustin Clark had a big 20-yard catch. We also played well defensively. Spray had a big game, recording 12 tackles. Skyler Luker played well at defensive tackle. Levi Penn performed well as did Kaicen Garvin and Carter Walker.”
The Lions return to action Thursday night with a conference road trip to Piggott.
