Mustangs claim sixth straight District golf title

Buffalo Island Central captured its sixth straight 2A-2 district golf championship Monday afternoon at the Cherokee Village South Course. The Mustangs fired a winning score of 244 to outdistance second place Salem by a whopping 57 strokes. Marmaduke came in third with a 302 score. All three teams qualified for the Class 2 A State Tournament.

Miles Gifford topped the Mustangs, claiming medalist honors with a round of 78. Andy Milligan shot an 82 while Andrew McFarlin finished with an 84. Canon Walling also competed and came in with an 88.

Salem took the girls crown with a 299-team score. BICís Lauren Peel qualified individually for the state tournament to be held Sept. 26 at the DeGray Golf Course in Hot Springs. Peel shot a 125.
