Manning leads Bobcats past Junior Lions

Cole Manning gashed the Manila defense for 200 yards and four touchdowns to lead Walnut Ridge to a 32-8 victory over the Lions in junior high football action Thursday night.

Manning got the Bobcats on the board with just 1:03 left in the first quarter, scoring on a 35-yard dash. Manning added the two-point conversion to give Walnut Ridge an 8-0 lead.

The Lions answered, putting together an 11-play, 58-yard scoring drive, capped off by Jordan Sprayís two-yard plunge at the 5:30 mark of the second quarter. Carter Walker evened the game 8-8 with his two-point conversion run.

The Bobcats wasted little time in taking the lead back when Manning bolted 59 yards down the right sideline and into the end zone. Landon Sainís two-point conversion put Walnut Ridge ahead 16-8.

The Bobcats increased their lead to 24-8 at the half when Manning scored again, this time on a 23-yard scamper. Makenna Moore added the two-point conversion.

Manning capped off his big night with a four-yard touchdown rush with 7:15 left in the game. Walker Hibbs tacked on the two-point conversion.

Manilaís Zac Morris led the Lions, rushing for 80 yards in the first half. Morris also completed a 10-yard pass to Walker.

The Lions (0-4) return to action Thursday night, playing host to Hoxie in 3A conference play.
