BIC golfers triumph at Manila

Buffalo Island Central triumphed in a four-team golf match Monday afternoon at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila.

The Mustangs fired a team score of 120 to outlast Manila, who came in second with a 127. Trumann finished third with a 146 tally while Armorel finished fourth at 151.

Miles Gifford, Andrew McFarlin and Andy Milligan all carded rounds of 40 to share medalist honors for BIC.

Joe Burrow and Brock Birmingham led the Lions with rounds of 41 while teammate Cade Cater carded a 45.

The Mustangs competed in the Hurricane Classic Saturday at the Jonesboro Country Club, finishing fifth with a team score of 328. Host Jonesboro, led by Brett Daughdrill’s two-under par 69, won the event with a team score of 287. Cabot finished second at 293, Paragould was a distance third at 319, followed by Texarkana’s 320 score. BIC and Marion tied with a 328-team total.

Gifford topped BIC with a 77, Milligan shot an 80, Canon Walling finished with an 85 while Andrew McFarlin carded an 86.

The Mustangs opened district tournament play Monday at the Cherokee Village South Course. Results will appear in next week’s paper.
