Velma Claudine Toombs
Caraway -- Velma Claudine Toombs, 89, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Hancock to the late Aaron and Pearl Fairfield Hinton. She was a member of the Caraway First Baptist Church. She will be remembered for loving and being in her church. She dearly loved her church family. She spent most of her life taking care of her family and working. She loved being with her family, cooking for them especially on holidays and traveling. Going to the beach with her brother each year was a big event for her.
She is survived by her children, James Toombs of Mountain View, Gary Toombs (Robin), Pearlene Moyer (Kenneth), and Sharon Fletcher (Wayne), all of Caraway; a brother, C.W. Hinton (Betty) of West Memphis; 10 grandchildren, Cindy Pollard (Mark), Shawn Moyer, Arron Moyer, David Toombs, Shannon Kelems (Susan), Jason Kelems and Chris Kelems (Jennifer), all of Caraway, Michael Toombs (Barbara) and Scott Toombs (Heather) of Paragould and Kevin Moyer of Lake City; 14 great-grandchildren, Hunter Toombs, Emily Toombs, Kaitlyn Toombs, Ryan Kelems, Jacob Kelems, Britney Kelems, Kyle Jeffers, Courtney Kelems, Heaven Moyer, Luke Moyer, Logan Moyer, Landon Moyer, Lexie Moyer and Caden Toombs; three great-great-grandchildren, Alaina Toombs, Drew Toombs and Elisabeth James; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Toombs; a son, Larry Toombs; two grandchildren, Christopher and Susan Toombs; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Bailey Kelems; three brothers, N.J., Roy and Rueben Hinton.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m, Friday, Sept. 8, at the Caraway First Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Caraway First Baptist Church.
