Mustangs capture Cougar Golf Classic

Buffalo Island Central broke away from a tie with Izard County Consolidated to bring home the Cougar Classic title Wednesday afternoon at South Course in Cherokee Village.

The two teams finished the first day at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course with identical 253 scores, but the Mustangs fired a 236 second day total to finish at 489, thirteen shots better than runner-up Pocahontas. Host ICC faded to third with a 506 total after shooting a second round 253.

Miles Gifford brought home medalist honors with a two-day score of 152. Gifford’s even par 72 on Wednesday catapulted BIC to victory. Andrew McFarlin came in third with a 161 total while Andy Milligan finished in ninth place with a two-day 176 score.

The Mustangs return to action this week, participating in the Ultimate High School Golf Tournament at Mountain Home.
