Lake City Council reviews ordinances

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Lake City Council tabled Ordinance No. 2017,192, amending a section of Ordinance No. 2008-231 at the May 15 meeting. The ordinance is in reference to permitting the raising of chickens and rabbits, limiting the number, and for other restrictions and amending the penalties for violations of the Ordinance.

The decision to table the ordinance came after lenghty discussion at the May 15 council meeting. The council want additional restrictions and the requirement of a cost free permit to be added to the ordinance for further review.

City Clerk Linda Simpson read the first reading of an ordinance (Ordinance No. 2017-193) amending an ordinance in place concerning lawn maintenance. The new ordinance provided for an increase in fines and civil penalities. The first reading passed unanimously.

The first reading of Ordinance 2017-194, read by Simpson, was approved by the council. The ordinance accepted certain property as an extension of Cobean Boulevard. The property belongs to Gary Despain, has been used as a city street for more than 20 years but never dedicated to the city.

Mayor Jon Milligan gave the Council, as requested, a copy of the City of Corning Ordinance No. 2017-02, An Ordinance regulating the feeding of stray animals within the city. The ordinance defines stray animals and fines for violations.

The Council was in agreement the city attorney should review the Ordinance and provide an Ordinance for the City of Lake City that would be compatible to Lake City.

Mayor Milligan informed the council he did not have the paperwork needed for an ordinance allowing purchase of real estate and to borrow funds. The Council tabled the ordinance until paperwork is provided.

In other business:

*Daniel Haynes invited everyone to Spring Fest May 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

*Alderman Toby Rand asked Mayor Milligan to have information on the police vacation at the next meeting.

*Alderman Mike George asked about the station on Highway 135 and Highway 18 they had discussed at the last meeting. He was told they would be moving to Caraway.

Next council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 19, at Lake City city hall.
