BIC's four-run rally stuns Armorel

Mustang reliever Kaleb Dublin turned in a gutty performance during BIC's clash with Riverside Wednesday at Monette. 

Buffalo Island Central scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, breaking a 3-3 tie, as the Mustangs downed Armorel 7-3 in high school baseball action Thursday afternoon at Monette.

Gavin Gathright drilled the go-ahead RBI single, putting the Mustangs up 4-3, before Logan Harrison followed with a bases-clearing double to cap off the four-run game winning rally. Harrison finished 2-4 with four RBI.

Cory Turner clubbed a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored twice while Bryce Towery and Canon Walling had two base hits apiece. Chayse Carmichael socked an RBI single and scored twice while Dax Hurst added a single and scored a run.

Carmichael picked up the win in relief, working three innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Andrew McFarlin pitched the first four innings before being ejected. McFarlin allowed just two hits, striking out four while walking only two.

The Mustangs traveled to Brookland Friday and lost a heartbreaker, 8-7, to the Bearcats. Brookland took a 6-0 lead after three innings, but the Mustangs charged back, scoring once in the fourth before putting up a six-run fifth to take a 7-6 lead. BIC carried their one-run advantage into the bottom of the seventh inning when Brookland’s Tyler Harrell led off the Bearcat seventh with a triple. Jules McCamey lifted a sacrifice fly, scoring Harrell from third to tie the contest, 7-7. With two outs, Ben Robinson cracked a single and stole second base. Landon Jones then delivered a game winning walk-off single, scoring Robinson, to give the Bearcats a thrilling one-run, come from behind victory.

Chandler Taylor earned the win in relief for Brookland. Harrison suffered the loss, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Gathright got the start, working the first three innings, allowing six runs and seven hits.

Turner belted an RBI triple, Harrison slammed a two-run double while Carmichael and Chanse Rose both singled twice and drove in a run apiece. Carmichael scored twice while Rose crossed the plate once. Hurst had a two-run single and scored a run while Kaleb Dublin singled and scored a run. Gathright and Kyle Thrasher both scored runs.

Bay visited Monette Tuesday afternoon and handed the Mustangs an 8-2 defeat. The Yellowjackets scored three runs in the first and two in the second to build a 5-1 lead. Bay added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The Yellowjackets out-hit the Mustangs 8-6. BIC hurt themselves, committing five errors.

Taylor Layne went the distance to pick up the win for Bay. The senior righthander gave up two runs, six hits, fanned three and walked four. Nathan Higgins led Bay with three hits and three RBI while Caleb Hartgen also added a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

Towery suffered the loss for BIC, pitching six innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on nine hits. Gathright pitched one shutout inning for BIC. Harrison had a pair of singles while Hurst belted an RBI double. Towery dropped in an RBI single. McFarlin doubled and scored a run while Dublin singled and scored once.

BIC travels to Marmaduke Monday to take on the Greyhounds, closing out regular season play. The Mustangs will open district tournament play against Flippin Thursday at Marked Tree. Game time is 5 p.m.

The Lady Mustangs were shutout by Armorel, 3-0, Thursday at Monette. BIC will return to action Tuesday in their regular season finale at Armorel.
