Towery fans 11 in win over Marked Tree
Riverside jumped out to an early lead and then added runs in the late innings to pull away from Marked Tree for an 8-2 win in non-conference softball action this past Monday in Marked Tree.
The Lady Rebels went down in order in the top of the first as Delaney George lined out, Katie Towery popped out and Carson Smith struck out. Marked Tree also went down in order in the bottom half as Ally Byers struck out, Brittany Pharis grounded out and Harley Daniel popped out. Riverside plated two runs with two outs after Bailey Fisher grounded out and Mallory Felton struck out. Grace Puckett drew a walk and scored when McKenna Beach doubled to make it 1-0 Lady Rebels. Brianna Campbell reached on error that allowed Beach to score making it 2-0 Riverside. Whitney Wagganor grounded out for the third out. Cam Willoughby struck out leading off the bottom of the inning for Marked Tree as Bailey Dunn flew out. Sydney Rotscheid walked only to be left stranded when Angel Barnes struck out keeping the score 2-0 Lady Rebels.
Riverside added another run in the top of the third inning as George walked leading off before going to second on a passed ball. Towery and Smith both flew out as Fisher doubled to plate George making it 3-0 Lady Rebels. Felton struck out for out three. Marked Tree scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning as Tiana Morris walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Megan Lowry struck out looking before Byers doubled to score Morris making it 3-1 Riverside. Pharis followed with a single that plated Byers making the score 3-2 Lady Rebels. Daniels doubled to put runners on second and third only to be left on base as Willoughby grounded out and Dunn popped out ending the inning. Riverside went three up and three down as Puckett led off with a double before Beach popped out. Puckett went to third on a passed ball only to be doubled off when Rotscheid caught a liner off the bat of Campbell at the third base bag stepping on it to for a double play. The Lady Indians went three up and three down too as Rotscheid and Barnes both grounded out before Morris struck out to keep the score 3-2 Riverside at the end of four.
The Lady Rebels again went down in order as Wagganor and George popped out and Towery grounded out. Lowry watched strike three as Byers was hit by a pitch and Pharis singled. A double steal put runners on second and third before Daniels and Willoughby both struck out to end the fifth inning with the score still 3-2 Riverside. The Lady Rebels added three more runs in the top of the sixth as Smith singled and went to second when the ball was bobbled in the outfield . Fisher singled to put runners at the corners. Smith scored on a passed ball making it 4-2 before Felton walked. Puckett singled to score Fisher to make the score 5-2 before Beach popped out and Campbell struck out. Wagganor beat out and infield single that scored Felton to make it 6-2 Lady Rebels. George struck out for the third out. Dunn looked at strike three leading off the bottom of the sixth for Marked Tree. Rotscheid flew out before Barnes walked and stole second base. Morris struck out leaving Barnes on second as the score stayed 6-2 Riverside.
Towery struck out looking for the first Riverside out in the top of the seventh as Smith beat out a grounder for an infield hit. Smith stole second and scored when Fisher reached second on an error to make the score 7-2 Riverside. Felton singled to bring in Fisher to make the score 8-2 Lady Rebels. Puckett struck out and Beach grounded out. Lowry struck out leading off the bottom of the seventh for Marked Tree. Byers drew a walk only to see Pharis ground out and Daniels pop out giving Riverside the 8-2 win.
Fisher led Riverside at the plate with two hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Smith had two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base, Puckett had two hits, a run and a RBI as Felton and Beach each had a hit, a run scored and a RBI. Wagganor had a hit and a RBI as George scored a run.
Towery got the win with a complete game giving up two runs on four hits. She walked four, struck out 11 and hit a batter.
Pharis had two hits, a RBI and a stolen base to lead the Lady Indians as Byers had a hit, a run scored, a RBI and a stolen base. Daniels added a hit as Morris scored a run for Marked Tree.
Daniels took the loss for Marked Tree as she pitched a complete game giving up eight run on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
