Mustangs earn number one seed in district tournament
Buffalo Island Central claimed three victories last week and, in the process, clinched the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament. The Mustangs pounded Cross County 15-0 Thursday afternoon on the road in a three-inning contest, edged East Poinsett County 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Lepanto and began the week with a 3-2 win Monday over Rivercrest at Monette.
Kaleb Dublin worked three shutout innings, allowing just one hit, to earn the victory over Cross County. Dublin also singled and drove in three runs. Dax Hurst belted a pair of doubles, singled, had three RBI and scored twice. Connor McCord cracked a pair of doubles, drove in two and scored a run while Canon Walling doubled twice and scored twice. Cory Turner had two singles, an RBI and scored a run while Logan Harrison drilled an RBI double and scored twice. Chayse Carmichael singled twice, drove in a run and scored two runs. Bryce Towery had a pair of RBI and crossed the plate twice while Andrew McFarlin and Kyle Thrasher both scored runs.
McFarlin fired a four-hitter and struck out 12 Warriors in BIC's one run decision over EPC. Towery went 2-3 and scored a run while Hurst and Turner both had base knocks. Thrasher had an RBI and scored once while McFarlin also drove in a run.
Gavin Gathright went all the way to pick up the win over Rivercrest. Gathright allowed two runs on five hits, struck out six and did not issue a walk. Hurst went 2-3, stole two bases and scored a run while Towery had a pair of hits and scored twice. Turner knocked in two runs with a single while Thrasher singled in a run. Carmichael also had a base hit.
BIC returns to the diamond Tuesday with a home game against Bay. The Mustangs entertain Riverside Wednesday and Armorel Thursday before ending the week with a road trip to Brookland on Friday.
