Lady Lions split against rivals Riverside and BIC
Manila 's Lady Lions split their only two games last week, rolling over Buffalo Island Central 17-7 Monday at Monette before being handed a 16-4 setback by Riverside Tuesday at home.
Manila scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Mustangs quickly got even with a three spot of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Lions took the lead for good with a four-run third. Manila held a 9-6 advantage entering the top of the seventh inning, where they scored eight times to put the game away,
Tessa Pannells picked up the win in Monday's victory over BIC. Pannells went the distance, giving up just five hits. The righthander struck out six and walked four while allowing seven runs, six of which were earned.
Pannells helped herself at the plate, going 4-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Taylor Hampton had three singles and scored twice. Hannah Teague singled, doubled, drove in a pair and scored twice. Ali Smith had a pair of singles, three RBI and scored a run while Madison Bibbs doubled and scored three times. Sasha Pannells ripped a two-run double and scored a run while Ashley Rothwell singled and scored three runs. Jill Helton scored twice while Sydney Adcock crossed the plate once.
Manila saw Riverside jump to a 15-2 lead after three innings as the Lady Rebels stormed past the Lions in Tuesday afternoon's conference matchup. Katie Towery worked five innings, giving up six hits and four runs, two earned, while striking out six to gain the victory for Riverside.
Whitney Wagganer belted a homerun while going 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored, leading the Lady Rebel's offensively. Towery had a pair of hits, drove in a run and scored once while Mallory Felton slapped a two-run single and scored a run. Carson Smith laced a two-run single and scored twice while McKenna Beach had an RBI single and scored a run. Delaney George singled and scored three times while Bailey Fisher scored once and drove in two runs. Carmen Campbell had an RBI single while Brianna Campbell scored three runs. Grace Ann Puckett also scored a run.
Sasha Pannells pitched one inning and took the loss for Manila. Pannells gave up six runs, four earned, on five hits. Tessa Pannells worked the final four innings, allowing 10 runs, two earned, while allowing four hits.
Teague led Manila at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Tessa Pannells blasted a run scoring double and scored once. Hampton had an RBI single while Helton and Ashlynn Jolly both singled. Sasha Pannells had an RBI while Bibbs and Smith both scored one run each.
Manila returns to action Monday with a road trip to Walnut RIdge. The Lady Lions travel to Gosnell Tuesday before closing the week with a home game Friday against Armorel.
