Walling and Dublin power Mustangs past Marked Tree
Buffalo Island Central routed Marked Tree and Cross County while falling to Armorel in high school baseball action last week. The Mustangs began the week, dropping a 12-2 decision Tuesday afternoon at Armorel. BIC bounced back and clobbered Marked Tree 14-3 Thursday before blasting Cross County 16-1 Friday at Monette.
Andrew McFarlin pitched five innings allowing two earned runs and six hits in BIC's win over Marked Tree. The junior righthander fanned six and walked five. Canon Walling and Kaleb Dublin led the way at the plate for the Mustangs. Walling singled twice, doubled, had four RBI and scored a run while Dublin singled twice doubled, had two RBI and two runs scored. Kyle Thrasher singled, doubled, drove in two and scored twice while Logan Harrison cracked a pair of doubles, had two RBI and scored three runs. Dax Hurst had two singles, an RBI and scored a run while McFarlin belted an RBI triple. Cory Turner ripped three singles and scored three times while Chayse Carmichael had a two-base hit and scored a run. Bryce Towery added a single.
BIC broke open a close game with Cross County, scoring six runs in the third and six more in the fourth to post a 15-run, five inning victory over the Thunderbirds. Hurst paced the Mustangs with three hits while Dublin and McFarlin had two base knocks apiece. Towery, Carmichael and Walling all singled. Carmichael went the distance, giving up one run while scattering six hits. Carmichael struck out seven and didn't issue a walk.
The Mustangs return to action Tuesday with a road trip to Lepanto where they will face conference rival East Poinsett County. BIC will finish the week with a road trip Thursday to Cross County.
