Lady Rebel softball wrap up

Riverside suffered through a tough week on the diamond, dropping three of four games in high school softball action last week. Gosnell hammered the Lady Rebels 18-3 Tuesday afternoon at Lake City. Riverside bounced back Wednesday and clubbed Osceola 16-0 on the road. Riverside hosted Rivercrest Thursday where the Lady Colts outslugged the Lady Rebels 21-10 before traveling to Corning Friday afternoon where the Lady Bobcats outscored Riverside 10-7.

In Tuesday's game at Gosnell, the Lady Pirates jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Riverside picked up a run in the second, but Gosnell answered, scoring four runs in the third before adding eight more in the fourth to take a commanding 15-1 lead. Gosnell scored three more in the fifth while the Lady Rebels tacked on single runs in the both the fourth and fifth innings. The game ended due to the 10-run rule.

Katie Towery pitched five innings and took the loss for Riverside. Towery was charged with nine earned runs on 10 hits. Towery fanned six and walked seven.

Grace Puckett singled, doubled and drove in a run to pace the Lady Rebel offense. Bailey Fisher added a hit and scored a run while Carson Smith and Hannah Shinall both crossed the plate one time apiece.

Riverside scored 12 runs in the first inning and went on to easily handle Osceola in a three-inning contest on Wednesday. Towery pitched three shutout innings of one-hit, eight-strikeout ball to gain the win.

Becca Campbell led the Lady Rebels at the plate, belting a homerun, singling and scoring twice. Towery helped herself at the plate with three singles, an RBI and three runs scored. Puckett singled, tripled, drove in a run and scored twice. Fisher had an RBI double and scored two runs. McKenna Beach had an RBI single and scored once. Ashlynn Wright singled in a run and crossed the plate once. Briley Douglas and Whitney Wagganor both scored twice and drove in a run apiece. Shinall, Cameron Campbell and Morgan Booth all had an RBI while Smith scored once.

Rivercrest broke a 2-2 tie, scoring eight times in the second inning, and went on to defeat the Lady Rebels Thursday at Lake City. Towery suffered the loss, working six innings, allowing 18 hits and 12 earned runs.

Fisher slammed a two-run homer and scored a run while Becca Campbell had two singles, two RBI and scored once. Beach had a pair of singles and scored twice, Delaney George delivered an RBI single while Smith singled and scored three times. Mallory Felton ripped a two-run triple and scored a run, Puckett had an RBI while Shinall and Towery both scored one run apiece.

The Lady Rebels return to action Monday, hosting Hoxie at Riverside before traveling to Manila Tuesday afternoon.
