Rebels roll on
Riverside continued to roll through their opponents, picking up five more victories in high school baseball action last week. The Rebels pitched shutouts over Gosnell and Harrisburg while also posting victories against East Poinsett County, Corning and Walnut Ridge.
Riverside began the week with a 3-0 whitewash over Gosnell Tuesday afternoon at Lake City. Gavin Stone worked six 2/3 innings, striking out 10 batters to pick up the win for the Rebels. Stone allowed just one run and four hits. Dillon Turner had a big day at the plate, going 2-3 with two RBI.
Larry Tilley got the win in Riverside's 7-1 victory Wednesday over EPC. Tilley pitched four 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits while fanning seven Warriors. Preston Nichols led the Rebels at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
After shutting out Harrisburg 8-0 Thursday at home, Riverside played host to Corning on Friday and defeated the Bobcats 5-3. Tilley picked up his second win of the week, throwing a complete game seven- hitter. Tilley allowed three runs, two earned, while striking out five and issuing one base on balls. The Rebels had six players produce base hits and got two RBI from Stone. Seth George took the loss for the Bobcats, giving up five earned runs on six hits. After falling behind Corning 3-0 early, Riverside scored two in the second and picked up three more runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.
The Rebels finished the week, pounding out an 11-5 win over Walnut Ridge on the road. The Rebels clung to a 6-5 lead after six innings but scored five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
