Lady Mustangs win season opener 11-1 over Marked Tree
Buffalo Island Central 's Lady Mustangs opened their softball season with an 11-1 thumping of Marked Tree Tuesday, March 14.
Lexi Ray went the distance to pick up the win, allowing just three hits while fanning seven Lady Indians. Ray also helped herself at the plate, going 2-3 with a pair of RBI. Vicky Esparza slammed a three-run homer while Haddyn Hurst went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three RBI.
The Lady Mustangs outslugged East Poinsett County 14-11 Thursday, March 16. BIC scored seven times in the first inning and went on to pick up their second win of the year.
Heather Sipes belted a homerun, bashed a triple, and drove in four runs while Hurst went 4-5 including a triple with a pair of RBI. Olivia Cornish singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
The Lady Mustangs closed the week by participating in the Bearcat Blast. BIC lost to Highland 4-3 Friday, but bounced back on Saturday, edging Cave City 7-6 before dropping an 8-7 decision to Piggott.
BIC will return to action with a road trip to Walnut Ridge Monday and will finish the week with a doubleheader against Bay.
