Lady Rebels turn back Trumann 66-54
Riverside rolled over Trumann 66-54 in senior girls basketball action Monday night at Trumann. The Lady Rebels jumped to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter and increased their margin to 33-22 at the half. The Lady Wildcats fought back and closed the gap to a single point, 46-45, entering the fourth quarter.
Haven Robertson led Riverside with 25 points, including an 8-9 performance from the foul stripe. Bailey Fisher and Lotti Hoffman scored 10 points apiece, Brittany Sain had eight, Whitney Wagganor pitched in six while Hattie Milligan tallied five. Carson Smith added two points to round out the Lady Rebel scoring attack. Riverside finished the night 26-37 from the foul line and drained six three pointers.
Zaria McGuire paced the Lady Wildcats with 18 points while Starlasia Simmons and Tay Smith added 12 and 11 points respectively. Trumann canned 23-32 foul shots and connected on four three pointers.
Riverside will enter senior high district tournament play as the number one seed from the East. The Lady Rebels receive a first round bye and will automatically qualify for next week's regional tournament at Lake City. Riverside will play Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday's Corning and Manila game.
Junior Lady Rebels end season
In the junior high district tournament at Piggott, Riverside bowed out in the semifinals, dropping a 51-30 decision to Hoxie. The Lady Mustangs held a 10-2 lead after the first quarter before taking a 17-9 advantage into the dressing room at the half. Riverside battled back and trimmed the deficit to 24-23 after three periods of play, but Hoxie outscored the Lady Rebels 27-7 in the final frame to advance to the championship game.
Beaner Hoffman led Riverside with nine points, Grace Ann Puckett tallied seven, Alexis Courtney scored six, Carmen Campbell netted five while Lexi Hall chipped in three points.
Riverside advanced to the semifinals with a 53-40 quarterfinal victory over host Piggott. Puckett led Riverside with 13 points, Hoffman scored nine, Courtney, Anna Meurer and Ashlyn Wright dropped in six points each while Campbell and Hall contributed five points apiece. Anna Mason scored three while Alexis Boatman added one point.
Taylor Seal scored a game high 16 to lead the Lady Mohawks.
