Lady Mustangs sweep past EPC and Marked Tree
Buffalo Island Central's Lady Mustangs picked up a pair of key conference victories last week, defeating East Poinsett County 50-45 Monday night at Lepanto, followed by a 44-41 victory Thursday night at Marked Tree.
Heather Sipes recorded a double-double in BIC's win at EPC, scoring 19 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Haddyn Hurst drained five three pointers and finished with 15 points while Molly Hart chipped in with 12 points and five boards, while dishing out four assists.
Hurst canned four consecutive treys in the opening quarter to help the Lady Mustangs take a 17-10 lead after the first break. BIC held a 25-19 halftime advantage and took a 34-27 lead into the final frame.
Becca Bishop led all scorers, pumping in 21 points for the Lady Warriors.
EPC took the junior high game 33-27 behind Jordyn Brewer's nine points. Vicky Esparza scored a game high 10 to lead BIC.
Sipes tallied 15 points to pace BIC over Marked Tree. Hurst added 11 as the Lady Mustangs improved to 13-10 overall and 9-3 in league play.
BIC held a slim 11-10 edge after the first quarter before taking an 18-17 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Mustangs led 32-29 after three periods of play.
Tulia Tull paced the Lady Indians with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jayla Carter scored 11 while C.J. Barnes added 10 points.
Marked Tree doubled up BIC in the junior high contest, 30-15.
BIC returns to action Monday night when they play host to Marked Tree. The Lady Mustangs will entertain Rector Thursday night before traveling to Manila to take on the Lady Lions on Friday.
