Trumann edges Lady Lions 40-39
Trumann dealt Manila a heartbreaking defeat, slipping past the Lady Lions 40-39 in senior girls basketball action Thursday night at Trumann.
Manila held a 23-21 edge at the half before the Lady Wildcats rallied to grab a 32-28 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Olivia Greenwell topped Trumann with 10 points while Starlasia Simmons added nine.
Hannah Teague paced Manila with a game high 16 points while Madison Bibbs also hit double digits, scoring 10 points. Sydney Adcock had seven, Hannah McQueen netted four while Presley Pierce chipped in two points.
In junior high action, Brailey Hampton pumped in 13 points to help Manila squeeze past Trumann 23-21. Anna Beth Baugher scored four while Grace Wilkins, Vivian Pryor and Anna Grace Adams all pitched in two points each.
The Lady Lions played host to Harrisburg Monday night and fell to the Lady Hornets, 56-40. Jessica Webb poured in 20 points and grabbed nine boards to lead Harrisburg. Kylie DeVries added 11 more for the Lady Hornets.
Teague topped the Lady Lions with 19 points. Adcock tallied six, Bibbs and Pierce netted four points apiece, Jordan Tyler had three while Hannah McQueen and Kaitlyn Adams chipped in two points each.
In junior high action, Manila improved to 11-7 on the year, rolling over the Lady Hornets 39-13. Hampton pumped in 17 points to lead the Lady Lions. Adams scored eight, Ashten Wallace, Julia McMinn and Jasmine Lozano all scored four points each while Wilkins added two points to round out the Manila scoring attack.
Manila returns to the hardcourt Monday night with a road trip to Rivercrest before finishing the week hosting Buffalo Island Central Friday night at Lion Gym.
