Harold Lloyd Stokes

Harold Lloyd Stokes, 90, of Manila, passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in McCrory, he was the son of the late Willie and Alice Poole Walker and was raised in the Manila area. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and later worked as a cotton ginner and farmer before moving to Peoria, Ill., where he worked many years for Caterpillar Inc. Following his retirement in 1980 he returned to Manila and spent much of his time enjoying gardening and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Christie Stokes.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Chipman of Manila and Debbie Stokes of Washington; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Manila Cemetery with Carroll Wayne Chipman officiating. Burial is under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila. The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
