Bay uses three point barrage to defeat Lady Mustangs
Bay exploded out the gate and raced to a 26-6 lead after the first quarter, swarming Buffalo Island Central 62-36 Monday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Lady Yellowjackets scorched the nets from beyond the three point line, banging home 15 treys on the night. At one point, Bay was 14-17 on three point attempts. The Lady 'Jackets began the game by hitting six triples in the first quarter alone. Bay canned three more treys in the second stanza and held a 35-16 halftime lead. The Yellowjackets kept reigning in three point bombs in the third quarter, knocking down five more triples, to take a commanding 59-24 advantage entering the final frame.
Whitlee Layne finished with a game high 22 points, including six three pointers, while dishing out five assists. Abby Frisby buried four treys and completed the night with 12 points and four assists. Sarah Blackman drilled four three pointers on her way to 12 points. On the night, the Lady Yellowjackets had five players connect from outside the three point zone.
Heather Sipes led BIC with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Haddyn Hurst scored eight, Brianna Lambert tallied six, Madison Nowlin had four while Jona Carmichael added three points.
In junior high action, Bay doubled BIC 34-17. Baylee Kirby led the Lady 'Jackets with 18 while Olivia Ferguson added 10.
BIC was paced by Diana Adams' four points. Vicky Esparza and Emma Graddy scored three points apiece, Olivia Manning, Lacey Dewitt and Lexi Riley all chipped in two points each while Haley Milligan added one point.
The Lady Mustangs fell to league leading Marmaduke 62-32 Thursday night at the MAC. Natalie Lentz pumped in a game high 31 points to lead the Lady Greyhounds while Tabitha Hyten added a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
Sipes led the way for BIC, scoring 12 points while snaring 11 rebounds.
Marmaduke led 14-11 after the first quarter before stretching their lead to 32-21 at the half. The Lady Greyhounds outscored BIC 24-5 in the third period to take a 56-26 lead into the final frame.
In the junior high game, Marmaduke remained undefeated with a perfect 23-0 mark, with a dominating 59-14 victory over BIC.
BIC picked up a victory Friday night with a 72-26 thrashing over Armorel. The Lady Mustangs jumped to a 20-4 lead after the opening break before entering intermission ahead 39-16. BIC held a whopping 57-21 advantage after three quarters.
Sipes had a big night, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 boards to go along with eight steals and four assists. Nowlin added 12 points, five assists and five steals.
In the junior high contest, Armorel squeezed past BIC 25-22. Hannah Carle paced the Lady Mustangs with 10 points.
BIC (11-9, 6-3 2A-3) will return to action Friday night when they play host to Earle.
