Lady Greyhounds race past BIC 63-31 in NEA quarterfinals
Marmaduke placed nine players in the scoring column while knocking down 12 three pointers as the Lady Greyhounds ran past Buffalo Island Central 63-31 in Wednesday morning's quarterfinals of the NEA Tournament at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
Marmaduke jumped on BIC early, racing to a 12-4 lead after the opening stanza. Scout Weatherford and Jordan Mays ripped three pointers to close out the first quarter. The Lady Greyhounds continued their offensive assault in the second period, draining five more triples, including two each by Mays and Natalie Lentz to take a 34-12 advantage into the dressing room at intermission. Marmaduke continued to throw down three point bombs in the third quarter, nailing a trio of treys to extend their lead to 47-21 entering the final frame.
May topped Marmaduke with 13 points while Natalie Shelton added 12 and Lentz finished the day with 11 points.
BIC got nine points off the bench from Brianna Lambert while Madison Nowlin scored six. Marmaduke held Heather Sipes, who had scored 29 points in the tournament opener, to only six points. Jona Carmichael tallied five, Haddyn Hurst netted three while Holly Stockton chipped in two points.
The Lady Mustangs began the tournament with a 61-45 victory Monday morning over Marked Tree. Sipes was joined in double figures by Nowlin, who scored 11 points. Hurst drained three treys and finished with nine points, Molly Hart tallied six, Carmichael had four while Holly Stockton finished with two points.
Tullia Tull paced the Lady Indians with 13 points while Jayla Carter added 11.
