Lady Hornets swarm Manila 51-19
Harrisburg came out of the gate smoking and went on to steamroll Manila 51-19 in first round girls action of the 70th annual NEA Tournament Tuesday morning at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The Lady Hornets bolted to a 12-2 lead after the opening period, capped off by a three pointer from Emily Armstrong, who led Harrisburg with 12 points. Harrisburg continued to build on its lead in the second period behind the scoring efforts of Keely Curtis and Cassie Armstrong, who combined for 12 points during the stanza. Curtis drained a three pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded, giving the Lady Hornets a 27-6 advantage at intermission.
Emily Armstrong led Harrisburg's third quarter surge that put the Hornets up 42-14 entering the final frame. Curtis joined Emily Armstrong in double figures with 11 points while Cassie Armstrong added nine. Harrisburg made 13-16 foul shots and drilled four triples.
Hannah Teague paced Manila with nine points. Hannah McQueen scored five, Tessa Pannells had three while McKenna Beach chipped in two points. The Lady Lions made just one of four free throw attempts and hit two treys.
