Stone's scoring splurge propels Rebels to wins over Gosnell and EPC

Riverside senior guard Braden Overman soars for two points in Gearld Jennings Tournament action against Gosnell. The Rebels lost 66-50 to the Pirates, two days after defeating them by a score of 84-70 in regular season play.

Riverside placed all five starters in double figures, led by Gavin Stone's 31-point performance, as the Rebels pounded Gosnell 84-70 Tuesday night at Gosnell. Riverside bolted to a 25-11 lead after the first quarter, and increased their margin to 49-28 at the half. The Rebels held a commanding 70-48 advantage after three periods of play.

Stone poured in 29 of his 31 points in the first half, and finished with six assists and six steals. Braden Overman recorded a triple-double, scoring 13 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and handing out 10 assists. Jon Milligan also had 13 points while Chris Sain and Dylan Austin chipped in 11 points apiece. Brody Davis tallied two while Ethan Cash added one point.

Tramaine Anderson led the Pirates with 17 points while Brandon Partee added 11.

The Rebels kicked off the Gearld Jennings Tournament Monday night at Armorel by clobbering East Poinsett County 87-64. Stone scorched the nets, burying six treys while finishing with 46 points. Milligan scored 15, Austin had 12 while Sain added 10. Overman finished with three while Davis netted one point.

J'Sebian Brown topped the Warriors with 26 points. Dez Barnes and Jay Reed added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Riverside stormed to a 22-4 lead after the opening period and led 45-13 at the half. The Rebels took a 68-45 advantage into the final frame.

Gosnell gained revenge on the Rebels by knocking Riverside out of the Gearld Jennings Tournament with a 66-50 victory in Thursday night's semifinals. Gosnell led 19-6 after the first quarter and held a 35-22 advantage at the half. Riverside closed to within 47-37 after three periods of play, and sliced the Pirate lead to 47-44 early in the final frame, but Gosnell took advantage of several Riverside turnovers and pulled away for the 16-point victory.

Anderson led Gosnell with 22 points while Partee added 17. Stone topped the Rebels with 20 while Sain scored 15. Milligan tallied six, Overman netted five while Austin contributed four points.

Riverside returns to action Tuesday night, hosting Westside. The Rebels resume play Friday night with a road trip to Harrisburg. Riverside will open play in the NEA Tournament as the number two seed in the lower division. The Rebels will take on Walnut Ridge Saturday night at 7:30.
