Gosnell rallies past Junior Lions in Gerald Jennings finals
Gosnell outlasted Manila 49-42 to take home the junior high title in the Gearld Jennings Invitational Tournament Saturday night at Armorel.
Manila led 10-4 after the first quarter and took a 20-16 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lions clung to a slim 30-29 edge after three quarters, before watching the Pirates rally in the final stanza, outscoring Manila 20-12 to pull out the victory.
Jydanian Young led the Pirates with 22 points. Daley Belew paced Manila with 22 while Austin Harmon added 13. Ty Wagner scored five while Emery Garrett chipped in two points.
Manila began the tournament with a 55-30 victory Wednesday night over Ridgefield Christian. Harmon led the Lions with 10 points. Belew and Alex Estell scored nine points apiece. Coby Hollis tallied seven while Garrett and Greg Patterson chipped in six points each. Wagner and Brian Gonzalez added four points apiece.
Manila roared past Riverside 46-22 in Thursday night's semifinals. Belew poured in 20 points to lead the Lions. Wagner scored seven, Patterson tallied six, Gonzalez netted five, Harmon had three while Anthony Lopez and Garrett Hart contributed two points apiece. Garrett added one point.
Riverside was led by D.J. Bowers, who scored seven points. Demo Bowers, Jacob Thomas and Gage Crews all scored four points apiece while M.J. Wilkinson added three points.
Riverside defeated Armorel 43-34 in the opening round of the Gearld Jennings Tournament. Ryan Austin led the Rebels with 12 points. Thomas and Demo Bowers tacked on nine points apiece. D. J. Bowers netted six, Ethan Boatman scored four while Luis Tosca tallied three.
C.J. Simmons scored a game high 14 points to lead the tournament host Tigers.
