Lady Lions fall in Gerald Jennings Classic

Manila's last second shot missed the mark, allowing Marked Tree to escape with a 39-38 victory in the Gearld Jennings Classic Saturday afternoon at Riverside High School in Lake City.

Marked Tree led 15-11 after the first quarter, 27-20 at the half and 33-28 entering the final period. The Lady Lions rallied and took a one point edge, but Tullia Tull put the Lady Indians back on top with under a minute to play. Manila played for the last shot, but failed to connect for the game winner.

Tull paced Marked Tree with 19 points while Taylor Hannah added 13 more. The Lady Indians finished 12-23 from the foul line and drained three treys.

Taylor Teague pumped in 16 points to lead the Lady Lions while Kaitlyn Adams tacked on 10. Sydney Adcock scored six, Tessa Pannells had four while Jordan Tyler chipped in two points. Manila made seven of nine free throws and drilled five three pointers.

Manila began the week with a 40-32 loss at home against Osceola. The Lady Seminoles led 12-11 after the first break and 25-18 at the half. Osceola took a 30-24 lead into the final frame.

Krystan Vornes topped the Lady 'Noles with 16 points while Taylor Teague led Manila with 11.

In junior high action, Brailey Hampton pumped in 21 points to propel the Lady Lions to a 41-27 victory over Osceola.

Manila fell to Harrisburg, 44-33, Thursday night. The two teams battled to a 14-14 deadlock after the first quarter, before the Lady Hornets grabbed a 25-18 advantage at the half. Harrisburg increased its lead to 32-22 after three quarters.

Jessica Webb scored 18 points to pace Harrisburg while Emily Armstrong chipped in 10.

Andi Baker topped the Lady Lions with 15 points. Teague tallied nine, Madison Bibbs had four, Tessa Pannells and Micah Beach contributed two points apiece while Hannah May added one point.

In junior high play, Manila rolled to a 36-21 victory behind Hampton's 21 points.

The Lady Lions return to action Monday night with a road trip to Trumann. Manila hosts Rector Tuesday night before traveling to Rivercrest to take on the Lady Colts Thursday night.
