BIC School shares academic recognition awards

During the monthly Buffalo Island School Board meeting Nov. 28 Superintendent Gaylon Taylor and members of the Board shared news of academic recognition awarded throughout the district.

The following certificates were presented to Buffalo Island School District by the Office of Education Policy:

*Most Improved in Science- High School Biology.

*Most Improved in Science- Seventh Grade Science.

*Best Test Scores in Math- West Elementary.

*Best Test Scores in Literacy- High School.

*Best Test Scores Literacy- Junior High School.

Deanna Clifton was hired to fill the position of business office manager. Clifton, a certified public accountant, was hired on a 240 day contract effective January 2017.

Board members heard both construction and engineer reports.

John Mixon of Cromwell Architects shared a brief update with the Board and said he feels comfortable moving forward with plans for construction.

Adam Seiter of Nabholz Construction shared information on the budget as the project prepares to pick up speed. The Board and Seiter discussed cost saving alternatives to work toward any further improvements possible for the building project budget. Seiter explained that plans were ready for the architects to take action on construction documents.
