Mayor honors Monette couple
Monette Mayor Jerry "Chub" Qualls honored long-time Monette residents, Claude Earl and Glendeen Barnett, with an official proclamation in honor of their 70th wedding anniversary.
Claude Earl Barnett of Monette and Glendeen Honnoll of Leachville married Nov. 1, 1946. They have spent most of their married lives living and working in Monette.
They owned and operated a parts store in Monette for 38 years. They worked side by side serving the people of Monette and the surrounding communities.
Mayor Qualls presented the couple with a framed proclamation declaring all future Nov. 1 days as Mr. and Mrs. Claud Earl Barnett Day in Monette.
"Mr. and Mrs. Barnett have honored the commitment they made to each other long ago and are great examples of loyalty in our community," Mayor Qualls said.
Barnett said he loves Monette. He takes care of the antique lights throughout the city and helps with the mowing when needed.
The couple is well known for their dancing. They loved to dance and through the years they won dancing contests from Monette to Florida. Through their dancing and their business, they made many lifelong friends.
They have three grown grown children, a son and two daughters.
