Firefighters added to Lake City FD

Lake City Council accepted the recommendation for several new firefighters at the Nov. 21 meeting. New members, approved unanimously, include Matthew Mann, Terry Fitzgerald, William Mann and Justin Avant.

Alderman Harold Barker, chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee, informed the council of a previous meeting with property owner Steven DeWitt concerning property located at 500 Grove. Mr. DeWitt is asking to re-zone property from R-2 to C-1. The council approved the rezoning.

Mayor Jon Milligan asked the Council to approve the new lease on the sanitation truck. The City renews its lease on a two year turn around. The council voted unanimously to approve the new lease.

The council voted to give Mayor Milligan the authority to auction equipment at the Hendrix Auction in December.

The 2015 Legislative audit was approved by all council members. Council also approved the 2015-2016 Water and Sewer Audit by Despain, Luther, Short and Company.

Mayor Milligan presented the Proposed 2016 budget to the Council. Alderman Dunigan said he would like to see a line item added for retirement to prepare the city to meet retirement requirements in the future.

Mayor Milligan said it is a proposed budget and changes could be made if necessary. The final budget will be approved in January. The Mayor also included in the proposed budget a 40 cent per hour raise across the board for all employees, which would include elected officials. Council voted to approve the proposed budget.

Dates for upcoming events were announced including: 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, Christmas parade; Santa on the fire truck Saturday morning, Dec. 3; 1 p.m. Dec. 10, Museum letters to Santa; Dec. 17 Christmas light judging, $50; $75; and $100.

In other business the council:

* approved an easement and assignment agreement with ATC Sequoia LLC.

* passed ordinance requiring residential and commercial builders to provide waste receptable for construction waste in the city limits.

* passed ordinance pertaining to issuance of water and sewer revenue bonds for improvements to the water facilities.

* passed ordinance designating places for posting of ordinances.

Next council meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at city hall.
