Lady Rebels break Mustangs 68-28
Riverside began the game with back to back three pointers, and finished the contest with 11 treys overall, as the Lady Rebels blasted Buffalo Island Central 68-28 in senior girls basketball action Monday night at Lake City.
After rallying late to pull out a close victory over their rivals just last week, Riverside came out smoking, building a 26-6 lead after the first period. The Lady Rebels continued their torrid shooting in the second quarter, increasing their advantage to 46-10 at the half. Riverside led 58-20 after three periods and closed out the game in the final frame to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Haven Robertson led the Lady Rebels with 16 points while Brittany Sain and Lotti Hoffman also hit double digits, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively. Bailey Fisher tallied eight, Whitney Wagganor pitched in seven, Hattie Milligan and Mallory Felton dropped in five points apiece while Briley Douglas and Hailey Carr added two points apiece.
Madison Nowlin nailed four three pointers and finished with 14 points to top the Lady Mustangs. Brianna Lambert scored six, Heather Sipes had five while Molly Hart chipped in three points.
In junior high action, Riverside routed BIC 51-15. Grace Ann Puckett paced the Lady Rebels with 16 points while Beaner Hoffman added 11. Lexi Hall scored eight, Anna Meurer netted six, Alexis Boatman pitched in four while Alexis Courtney, Carmen Campbell and Cailey Qualls all chipped in two points apiece. The Lady Rebels made three treys and hit 10-12 foul shots.
Emma Graddy led BIC with six points while Hannah Carle tallied five.
The Lady Rebels fell to defending 2A State Champion Earle on a late three pointer, 50-49, at the Marmaduke Classic Saturday afternoon. Riverside won their junior high contest, pounding East Poinsett County 42-5. Puckett led the Junior Lady Rebels with 10 points.
Riverside returns to action Monday night against Bay before closing the week with a road trip to Lepanto Thursday night, where they will take on East Poinsett County.
Highland downed BIC 66-51 in senior girls play Saturday afternoon at the Marmaduke Classic. Highland placed three players in double figures, led by Kelsey Abney, who scored 20 points. Alexis Moore and Katelynn Miller pitched in 17 and 14 points respectively.
Sipes led BIC with a game high 28 points while Hart added 12.
BIC tangles with Manila Monday night at Monette before traveling to Marmaduke Thursday night.
Manila's Lady Lions opened the season with a 55-46 victory over Marked Tree Thursday night at Manila. The Lady Lions jumped to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter and held a 34-23 advantage at the half. Manila maintained a nine point lead, 44-35, after three periods of play.
Hannah Teague pumped in 19 points to lead Manila while Jordyn Wheeler pitched in 12 more.
The Junior Lady Lions took down Marked Tree 41-29 behind Brailey Hampton's 17 point performance.
Manila will close out the week Thursday night when they play host to Armorel.
