Rebels roll past Warriors and Tigers
Riverside improved to 4-2 on the season with a pair of victories in high school basketball action last week. The Rebels took care of Ridgefield Christian 66-43 Tuesday night at Lake City and followed up with an easy 65-39 win Friday night over Armorel at home.
Gavin Stone pumped in 25 points in Riverside's win over Ridgefield while Chris Sain added 10. Braden Overman dished out seven assists. The Rebels held a 37-19 halftime lead and built a 61-31 advantage after three quarters.
The Rebels also won the junior high contest 58-28. Demo Bowers topped Riverside with 18 points.
In Friday night's win over Armorel, the Rebels got double-doubles from three different players to roll past the Tigers. Dylan Austin scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Overman chipped in 12 points and handed out 10 assists while Sain contributed 10 points and pulled down 12 boards. Stone added 19 points and dished out six assists.
Riverside led 17-11 after the first break and 29-26 at the half. The Rebels stretched their lead to 42-30 after three periods of play and pulled away in the final frame.
Monroe Carr paced Armorel with 16 points.
In the junior high game, Riverside upped its record to 4-2 with a 54-32 win over the Tigers. The Rebels placed three players in double digits, led by Demo Bowers' 16 point performance. D. J. Bowers tallied 14 while Ryan Austin pitched in 11.
Riverside will return to action Tuesday night when they face Buffalo Island Central at Lake City. The Rebels will close the week with a road trip Friday night to face Ridgefield Christian in Jonesboro.
