Leda M. Rogers
Memphis -- Leda M. Rogers was at the Trinity Hospice Unit of Baptist-East Hospital when she went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 10, after a long ordeal (over a month in the hospital) with several health complications brought on as a result of a broken hip suffered from a fall at her home. Her son and daughter were with her when she passed over.
She was born in Manila to Viola and Herman Williams on Oct. 4, 1927. She was a 1945 graduate of Manila High School. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday with balloons and flowers decorating her room at the hospital. Ms. Leda wore "several hats" throughout her life: a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother (MawMaw), companion, friend and a Christian Lady...just to name a few.
She was preceded in passing by her mother and father; sister, Winnie Lou of Manila; two nieces, Janie of Manila and Mickey of Cantonment, FLa.; husband, James W. Rogers of Memphis; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Ray Ming of Vicksburg, Miss., Richard Rogers (wife Evelyn) of Louisville, Miss., Frank Rogers (wife Margaret) of Louisville, Miss.; and several other family members and friends through the years.
Ms. Leda is survived by her son, Cecil Rogers, daughter-in-law, Jodi Rogers, and grandson, Cody Rogers, all from Collierville, Tenn.; daughter, Rebecca Rogers--Sneed) and son-in-law, "Smokey" Sneed, of Louisville, Miss.; sister-in-law, Margaret Ming of Vicksburg, Miss.; a host of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and nieces and their husbands/wives; her personal/family emergency friends, Larry Cole and Cleo Buzzard, both of Memphis; her Leawood Baptist Church family, plus many other family members and friends, too numerous to mention individually. Ms Leda loved each and every one of them.
She will be extremely missed by all, but remembered with great love by all as well. Leda Rogers' long journey on earth is over, but her eternal heavenly journey has just begun.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, East in Memphis. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Leawood Baptist Church in Memphis. Interment was in Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens in Memphis.
