Argument leads to fatal shooting
Sheriff Dale Cook said Mississippi County deputies responded to a 911 call to West Mississippi County Road 38, north of Leachville, on Thursday evening, Oct. 27. Upon arrival, the victim, Mike Wallace, 55, of Monette was found deceased lying on the south edge of West County Road 38.
Allan Curtis Jones, 26, of Arbyd, Mo., faces charges of first degree murder.
According to the report, Jones told deputies he met Wallace to talk about a dispute between them. Jones said he picked up his cousin because he felt like Wallace wanted to fight. He said when they arrived Wallace confronted him and grabbed him by the arm. Jones said he pulled away from him, pulled a gun from his pocket, and shot Wallace until the gun was empty.
Jones' cousin who witnessed the incident said he came to the scene to make sure Jones did not get beat up. The witness said when they arrived Wallace immediately confronted Jones and Jones began to back away from him. He went on to say Jones was going backwards retreating from Wallace. The witness said they went behind the truck and he could see Wallace had grabbed Jones by the arm or the shirt and then he heard gun shots.
The witness said he did not see a gun until he was behind the truck and he saw Jones holding a gun and the slide was locked back.
The witness said he applied pressure to one of the wounds with a shirt and told Jones to call 911.
According to the release, Wallace was not armed with any weapon.
Bond was set at $150,000 on Friday by Judge Ralph Wilson.
At press time, Sheriff Cook said Jones is due in Blytheville District Court on Tuesday morning (Nov. 1.)
The argument apparently was over a herbicide spray.
