Lions finish sixth in state golf tourney

Manila golfers finished sixth at the recent 3A State Championships held at the Mountain Ranch Golf Club at Fairfield Bay.

Harding Academy won the state title, firing a winning team score of 256. Clinton finished runner-up with a 259 total. Manila carded a 280, led by Joel Burrow, who finished with a round of 83, just two shots shy of qualifying for the overall tournament. Brock Birmingham had a 97, Cade Cater finished with a 100 while Neal Benson completed the day with a 107.

"I was really proud of our team," said Lion Coach John Deaton. "Joel really played well and came close to qualifying for the overall state tournament. It was a good day for us," said Deaton.

Riverside's Larry Tilley carded a 91 while teammate Preston Nichols finished with a 98.
