BIC boy golfers have repeat
Buffalo Island Central claimed its second consecutive 2A State Golf Championship firing a winning team score of 226 Tuesday at the Camden Country Club. The Mustangs outdistanced runner-up Camden Harmony Grove by 22 shots to win their third state title in the last four years.
Trey Depriest posted a 2 under par 69 to lead the Mustangs, while finishing as medalist runner-up and qualifying for the Overall State Tournament to be held at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.
Andrew McFarlin carded a 77 and Dax Hurst came home with an 80 for BIC. Miles Gifford had an 83.
"We played very well," said BIC Coach Justin Yates. "We finished 70-5 in our matches this year and defended our state title. I am very proud of our team. Trey is playing great right now and I think he has a very good chance to finish in the top three at the overalls," Yates said.
BIC hosted the 2A Girls State Tournament Tuesday Sept. 27 at Thunder Bayou in Blytheville. The Lady Mustangs finished seventh in the 10 team field. Camden Harmony Grove took the team crown with a 277 score. Salem was second with a 305 total while BIC came in with a score of 371.
Seniors Kensie Walker and Jona Carmichael led the Lady Mustangs with scores of 116 and 120 respectively. Lauren Peel carded a 135.
"Our girls did a great job," Yates said. We will miss our two seniors but as well as Trey and Dax off the boy's team, but we have a lot of talent returning and are looking forward to carrying on the great tradition we have here at BIC."
