Lions roar past Corning 22-0

Manila used a strong defensive effort to shut out league foe Corning 22-0 Friday night at Bobcat Field. Logan Hamilton scored a pair of touchdowns, while quarterback Patrick Tanner added another score as the Lions improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in 3A-3 Conference play.

Hamilton got the Lions on the board in the first quarter with a six-yard romp. The PAT failed leaving Manila ahead 6-0. The Lions added a second touchdown on Tanner's 6-yard gallop later in the period. Hamilton converted the 2-point play to put the Lions up 14-0.

Manila added a second half score when Hamilton rambled in from 33 yards out. The 2-point play set the final at 22-0.

Timmy Smith led Lion rushers with 51 yards on eight carries. Hamilton rushed 20 times for 48 yards. Layne Sims had two totes for 14 yards, while Tanner carried 11 times for 7 net yards.

Tanner completed 6-8 passes for 85 yards while Sims was 3-5 for 53 yards. D.J. Myers caught three passes for 54 yards and Tyler Archer had three catches for 50 yards. Layton Staggs had one reception for 30 yards, while Kyle Bell and Timmy Smith caught one pass apiece.

The Lions will return to conference action facing another tough road test Friday night at Piggott. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
