Bobcats upend Junior Lions, 36-13
Walnut Ridge quarterback Andrew Brewer scored four touchdowns, propelling the Bobcats to a 36-13 victory over Manila in junior high football action Thursday night at Lion Field.
Brewer hit pay dirt on runs of eight, one, six and 64 yards while totaling 89 yards on 12 carries.
Cole Manning got the Bobcats on the board at the 5:12 mark of the opening period with a two-yard blast. Brewer's two-point conversion run put Walnut Ridge on top, 8-0.
Brewer scampered in from eight yards out with 7:22 left in the first half and Manning added the two point conversion, pushing the Bobcat lead to 16-0.
Carter Walker's three-yard touchdown run put Manila in the scoring column with 2:11 left in the half, slicing the Bobcat advantage to 16-6. Walker's score capped off an impressive 13-play, 54-yard touchdown drive for the Lions.
Brewer's second rushing touchdown of the night gave the Bobcats a 24-6 lead at halftime.
The Walnut Ridge quarterback tacked on two more scores in the fourth quarter, a six-yard touchdown run and a 64-yard gallop, giving the Bobcats a 36-6 lead.
Manila capped off the scoring when eighth grader Zac Morris darted in from 10 yards out.
The Bobcats totaled 194 yards of offense, including 151 on the ground. Brewer completed all four of his pass attempts for 43 yards. Manning carried five times for 36 yards.
The Lions finished with 156 yards of total offense. Morris rushed six times for 52 yards while Garrett Hart and Walker had 40 and 35 yards respectively on the ground.
Manila travels to Hoxie Thursday night to face the Mustangs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
