Joel Burrow fired a 79 to claim medalist honors and help lead Manila to the 3A-3 district golf championship Wednesday at the Eagle Mountain Golf Course in Batesville.

The Lions outdistanced second place Corning 270-287 as both teams advanced to the state tournament to be held Oct. 3 at the Mountain Ranch Golf Course in Fairfield Bay.

Brock Birmingham carded a 91 for Manila while Cade Cater finished with a 100 in the play four, count three event. Neal Benson shot a 102 for the Lions.

"I am very proud of the kids," said Lion coach John Deaton. "We are looking forward to the state tournament. I think we can compete there, and we're going to give it our best shot."

Riverside came in third with a 301 total and qualified both Larry Tilley and Preston Nichols as individual players in the state tournament. Tilley fired an 85, the third best round of the tournament, while Nichols had an 18-hole score of 95.
