Mustang, Lion golfers post victories

Trey Depriest fired a one under 25 to grab medalist honors, helping Buffalo Island Central defeat three other schools in high school golf action Tuesday afternoon at Sage Meadows in Jonesboro.

The Mustangs outdistanced second place Wynne, 166 to 180. Manila came in third with a 188 total while Nettleton was fourth at 191.

Miles Gifford shot a 39 while teammates Dax Hurst and Andrew McFarlin finished with 46's for BIC.

Joel Burrow carded a 42 to lead Manila. Cade Cater fired a 43, Brock Birmingham followed with a 50 while Neal Benson finished with a 53.

Manila scored a victory in a five team match Monday afternoon at the Sugar Creek Country Club in Piggott. Joel Burrow fired a 40 to pace the Lions while Cade Cater and Brady Clark shot 45's for the Lions, who won by two shots over second place Corning 130-132.

In girl's action, Corning took top honors with a 168 total while Manila finished third with a 186. Jozalyn Keys led the Lady Lions with a 56, good for second individually.

BIC claimed a four team match Monday, Aug. 22, at the Big Lake Country Club at Manila. The Mustangs fired a winning score of 110 to finish 22 shots better than runner-up Manila.

Depriest and Hurst carded 36's to earn co-medalist honors. Gifford came home with a 2-over 38. Burrow shot 37 to lead the Lions while Cater and Benson carded a 46 and 49 respectively.

In girl's action, BIC was the winner with a 176 team score. Manila was third at 193. Kensie Walker took home medalist honors for the Lady Mustangs with a 56. Jonna Carmichael shot a 59 and Lauren Peel scored a 61. Jozalyn Keys led the Lady Lions with a 62 while Presley Pierce and Allie Edwards shot 65 and 66 respectively.

Monday, Aug. 15, saw the Mustangs take down Manila 110-140 at Big Lake Country Club. Depriest and McFarlin fired even par 36's to claim co- medalist honors while Hurst and Gifford carded 38's. Burrow topped the Lions with a 43, Benson shot a 48 while Cater came in with a 49.

Riverside was led by Larry Tilley's 43 while Justin Berry had a 60 for the Rebels.

In girls play, Marmaduke slipped past BIC 185-186. Manila was third at 200. Walker and Carmichael carded 59's to lead the Lady Mustangs while Peel had a 68. Keys led Manila with a 66 while Edwards and Pierce shot 67's. Brittany Ditto fired a 62 for Riverside.

BIC rolled over Nettleton on Thursday, Aug. 11, at Sage Meadows. The Mustangs downed the second place Raiders 154-190. Depriest fired an even par 36 for medalist. Gifford and McFarlin shot 38's while Hurst tallied a 42.

The Mustangs came in third in the tough Mountain Home Ultimate High School Invitational Classic, featuring nine teams, held Aug. 8-9. The two- day event saw Jonesboro fire a 591 winning total. North Little Rock edged BIC 639-641 for second.

Dax Hurst, who held the first day lead with a two under par 70, led the Mustangs with a two- day total of 150. Gifford had 162, Depriest tallied 163, while McFarlin carded a 166.
