Aramark Refreshments representative addresses Riverside Board

Mark H. Waterbury IV of Aramark spoke with the Riverside School Board Aug. 8 to discuss how the company operates should the district consider outsourcing cafeteria services.

Waterbury emphasized the degree of involvement the district will have and flexibility of contract agreements. When concerns for the future of current staff were addressed, the Board was informed the district will control many decisions and have options to adjust to needs specific to the district. Use of Aramark offers an extension of purchasing power and the use of resources intended to guarantee an increase in student interest and purchase of school lunches. Waterbury invited Board members to speak with local schools working with Aramark to discuss their experience first hand.

Superintendent Jeff Priest informed the Board of a contract with Verizon making wi-fi available to passengers of four Riverside buses. Two shuttle buses between Lake City and Caraway along with two buses used for trips will have internet access.

Riverside's 2017 graduation will be held Sunday afternoon, May 7. In the past graduations have been scheduled for Friday evenings. The Board decided to try the change in an effort to avoid possible spring sport conflicts that may prevent graduate attendance.

School Board elections will be held Sept. 20. Candidates filed for election include Position 3, Incumbent Mike Brickell and Scott Browning; Position 2, Incumbent Len B. Nall (no opposition).

Riverside will begin accepting offers for unused furniture left in the Caraway building. For more information persons can contact the superintendent's office.

The board was informed of a change in banking. The Riverside School District began banking with Unico Bank as of July.

Pay increases of five percent or more were accepted for the school year.

The Board accepted letters of resignation from aides Johana Boatman and Brandy Bowman. Kim Fitzgerald will work in place of Boatman at the East Elementary. Brenda Stotts, special education aide, is transferring from the high school to West Elementary. Diana Davis, aide, is transferring to East Elementary.

The next Riverside School Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12, in Caraway.
