Names taken for Monette veterans monument

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

The veterans park in Monette is in its final planning stage before the large black marble monument is under construction.

"We are now concentrating about securing the names of veterans to engrave on the monument," said Chairman Henrietta Qualls. "This is not just for Monette veterans, but for all area veterans, living or deceased."

The monument will be placed on the stoplight intersection of East Drew Avenue and North Edmonds Street. The groundwork has been completed and the foundation is in place.

The City of Monette is partnering with the Veterans Park Committee and the City Beautification Committee in a widespread fundraiser project to secure the necessary financial contributions.

Persons may use the form in this week's Town Crier on page

to have a veteran's name included on the monument. There will be space for 1,288 names on the marker. For more information, contact Monette City Hall at 870-486-2000.
