The Monette home of Jennifer and Michael McFarlin was selected as the Yard of the Month for July.

City Beautification Committee member Steve Suber presented Michael McFarlin with a certificate, which read, "The home of Jennifer and Michael McFarlin has been recognized as having the most beautifully landscaped and manicured yard in the entire Monette Community for the month of July 2016."

A yellow and brown "Yard of the Month" sign was placed in the McFarlin front yard to acknowledge the beautification award. Suber also presented a large airplane plant hanging basket.

The McFarlin home is on an acre and a half lot, located at 1397 County Road 541. The home consists of 3,400 square feet of open layout, with three bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, breakfast area, living room, game room, exercise room, safe room and laundry. Two covered porches are included with the back porch extending almost the entire length of the home, with numerous flowers and outdoor furniture for gatherings.

The landscaping for the home was done by Harmony Gardens, of Jonesboro, with a sprinkler system by Jim Dejarnatt. Landscaping includes annual dianthus, boxwood, Indian hawthorne, pink crepe myrtle, dwarf liriope, Knock Out roses, maiden grass, loroperalum, day lilies, gardenia, cleyera, Japanese maple, Drift rose, and a stone bed border of flowers.

"We recently finished building our two-story shop, which sets adjacent to the house," Michael McFarlin said. "It has a full kitchen, bathroom, and surround sound TV, along with couches and indoor self-practice facility and storage for fishing and hunting boats."

Jennifer and Michael are very busy people and involved in their community and church. As a pharmacist, Michael is owner of McFarlin Pharmacy in Monette. Jennifer Hallmark McFarlin is drug screen coordinator at Occupational Health, in Jonesboro. Daughter Jenna Pike graduated from Arkansas State University and is now in her second year doctoral program for occupational therapy. Son Andrew will be a junior at Buffalo Island Central this year.
