Second Annual Howard Reeves Memorial provides scholarships

Scholarships from the Second Annual Howard Reeves Memorial Golf tournament were presented on Thursday in Monette. The Second Annual Howard Reeve's Memorial Tournament was held at the golf course on Turkey Mountain on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5.

Mr. Reeves, a longtime Monette businessman, loved golf and was an honorary lifetime member of Big Lake Country Club.

Mr. Reeves passed away April 10, 2015. The golf tournament in his memory provides scholarships for area athletes.

This year three $1,100 scholarships were presented. Recipients of the scholarships were Letticia Collins from Izard County Consolidated; Ashley Field from Buffalo Island Central in Monette; and Burch Milano and Justin Bratton of Manila High School, splitting the third scholarship.

The 2016 three person scramble had a payout of $1,200 for first place; $420 for second place; and $225 for third place.

Tournament winners included:

Champ Flight -- Rusty Champbell, Justin Burns, Nate Duncan first place; Spooner, Aaron Circle, Brad Lamb, second place; Shane Smith, Wendall Smith, Josh Bateman, third place.

"A" Flight -- Jeremy Burns, Stacey Buchannan, Chris Deitric, first place; Jeff Cole, Rick Black, Jim Throgmorton, (Team Barton's), second place; Bill Alternatt, Doug Lansdown, Jerry Premer, third place.

"B" Flight - Willie Jarrett, Kenny Nicholson, Tommy Eagan, first place; Nathan Whitlow, Alex Field, Garrett Scott, second place; Terry Brewer, Rick Brewer, Gary Brewer, third place.

"C" Flight -- Zack Birmingham, Brock Birmingham, Joel Burrows, first place; Laura Schneider, Rod Collins, Diane Schuster, second place; Brandon Brewer, Colby Brewer, Wyeth Spikes, third place.

The family of Mr. Reeves gave a special thank you to the golf course on Turkey Mountain, Chuck McNeight and crew, Josh Jackson and crew, the Loft, Smokin Butts BBQ-Junior Wallace, Scott Gifford and Tony Hawkins for running the Calcutta, area sponsors, players and the town of Horseshoe Bend.
