Members of the Manila Depot Committee, Inc., met with Manila City Council to discuss property for a new senior center.

Manila Mayor Wayne Wagner and city council members met with representatives of the Manila Depot Committee, Inc. prior to a special called meeting Thursday, June 30, to discuss the purchase of property to be used for a senior center.

The Depot Committee agreed to sell the railroad right of way property west of the Depot Center for $8,000 to the city for construction of a new senior center.

The Depot Committee also gifted the city with the former western store building.

Council members expressed their appreciation to the Depot Committee members.

Resolution 2016-4 was passed to purchase the land from the Depot Committee for the senior center and to accept the gift of the building that once housed the western store.

After a discussion with committee members, it was decided to name the short street that will divide the depot center from the senior center Depot Lane.

The council voted to allow Mayor Wagner to work with the school allowing them to use the old gun building for bus storage. The school's bus shed had to be removed to make room for construction of the new high school.

The Council voted to move the regular meeting time of the Manila City Council back to the third Monday of each month starting in July.
