Whitney Shepard new site manager at Manila Senior Center
Whitney Shepard is the new site manager at the Senior Center in Manila. She began her new career on Monday, May 9. She said she has received a great welcome from the seniors.
Shepard lives in Leachville and is a 2006 graduate of Manila High School. She has worked at Circle Inn for three years and also worked at First National Bank for four years.
Her plans for the Manila Senior Center include increasing the attendance and offering hands on activities to meet all of the interests and skills of the group.
"I want to have something for everyone," she said. "The number one priority is getting the people here and number two is finding the activities they will enjoy. Bingo days are very popular and I hope to find other activities that will be as inviting."
Shepard wants to utilize the skills the seniors have. She hopes to have arts/crafts, painting, gardening, sewing, more exercise programs, games and more.
"My goal is to keep the hands and minds as strong as possible," she said. "I have really enjoyed my first week here. We have a great group of people and I see good things in the future for the area senior citizens."
Senior citizens meet at the Airport Center in Manila five days a week. The doors open at 8 a.m. Lunch is served at 11 a.m.
"We do not have income restrictions," Shepard said. "We are open to anyone 60 and over."
Shepard invites anyone in the area to stop by and visit and join in the fun and fellowship at the center.
"I am excited about being part of it," she said.
