Lions, Lady Lions advance to championship round

Caitlain Holt belted a walk-off bases clearing double in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping off a five run rally that lifted the Lady Lions to a thrilling 9-8 victory over Corning in Thursday's 3A-3 District Tournament softball action at Manila.

The Lady Lion's comeback erased an 8-4 deficit, propelling Manila in to Monday's rain delayed finals. Holt finished 2-3 on the day while teammate Ashley Rothwell also had a sparkling day at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBI. Madison Bibbs also drove in a run while Jordyn Wheeler got the win on the mound.

The Lady Lions clinched a share of the conference title with a 7-6 win over Piggott on Monday. Wheeler went the distance to pick up the win, allowing four earned runs and eight hits. Mollie Beth Couch went 2-4 with two RBI, Tessa Pannells drove in two runs, while Rothwell and Jill Helton rapped two hits each.

Manila also defeated Blytheville on Monday, 17-2. Kylie Henderson went 2-3 with five RBI, Bibbs was 2-4 with two RBI, while Beth Rawson and Hannah May drove in one run each.

Manila's boys saw rain delay their district tournament which will finish Monday at Corning. The Lions completed the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Osceola and a 13-7 loss to Armorel.
