Lady Rebels fall in district tournament 7-6

Riverside saw its softball season come to an end Wednesday at Marked Tree when the Lady Rebels dropped a tough 7-6 battle to Cross County in the 2A-3 District Tournament.

The Lady Thunderbirds scored a run in the second on a Kourtney Lee double and went up 2-0 in the fourth scoring on a fielders choice ground out. Riverside pulled to within 2-1 when Lauren Smith tripled in a run in the bottom of the inning, but the T-Birds answered with four more runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 advantage. Singles by Caley Murphy and Bre Wright highlighted the outburst.

Cross County added another run in the sixth on a Lee RBI single to lead 7-1 before the Lady Rebels rallied scoring two in the sixth and three more in the seventh cutting the T-Bird lead to just one run.

Lauren Smith delivered a two-run single in the sixth while Riverside scored three unearned runs in the seventh. Lee got the win for Cross County while Kayli Womack took the loss for Riverside. Delaney George added a pair of hits and an RBI while Breanna Campbell singled and scored a run.

Riverside kicked off the week with a 11-10 nonconference win over Bay on Monday at Lake City. The Lady Rebels built a 10-1 lead heading into the seventh inning but the Lady Yellowjackets rallied scoring nine times to tie the game 10-10. Riverside pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the inning to get the win.

Womack got the victory working seven innings giving up just one earned run on 10 hits. Womack also singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Hannah Shinall went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Carson Smith had an RBI triple and scored two runs. Mallory Felton tripled and scored twice. Haven Robertson had a two run double while MaKenna Beach added an RBI single.

The Lady Rebels closed the regular season with a 7-5 victory over Rector Tuesday on the road. Womack pitched a complete game to record the win allowing five runs on eight hits. Felton was 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Lauren Smith was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Womack had two hits and scored a run, Carson Smith singled and scored once, Beach had an RBI single, while Robertson singled and scored a run. George also added an RBI single for the Lady Rebels.
