Lady Mustangs rally past Riverside 12-11 to complete doubleheader sweep
Riverside dropped a doubleheader to Buffalo Island Central Friday afternoon at Lake City. The Lady Mustangs scored two runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Riverside 3-0 in the opener behind the one-hit shutout pitching performance of Lexie Ray.
BIC also won the nightcap, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull out a 12-11 come from behind victory over the Lady Rebels. Ray picked up the win for BIC while Kayli Womack took the loss for Riverside.
Heather Sipes led BIC hitters, going 3-4 with four RBI. Molly Hart had a 3-4 day at the plate while Holly Stockton went 2-3.
Carson Smith belted a single and two doubles, scored once and drove in a pair of runs to lead Riverside at the plate. McKenna Beach singled twice, drove in three runs and scored a run. Haven Robertson singled twice and scored two runs. Delaney George cracked an RBI single and crossed the plate twice. Lauren Smith and Hannah Shinall both banged out RBI singles. Brianna Campbell singled and scored a pair of runs while Womack and Karlee Sanders both scored once and had an RBI apiece.
Womack smacked a pair of hits and pitched a five-hitter to lead the Lady Rebels to a 7-1 victory over Cross County in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Lake City. The senior right hander gave up just one run while striking out eight and issuing only one base on balls.
Womack singled, doubled, scored a run and had an RBI to lead the Riverside offense. Mallory Felton cracked an RBI triple and scored a run. Lauren Smith belted an RBI single while Shinall rapped a single and scored a run. Beach also singled for the Lady Rebels. George, Carson Smith and Campbell all scored runs.
Cross County came back and took the nightcap, 1-0. Campbell had Riverside's only hit while Womack was the tough-luck loser, giving up one unearned run and just three hits.
Riverside began the week, dropping a 14-4 decision Monday at Bay. Womack suffered the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings, giving up 14 runs, only four of which were earned. Womack allowed 10 hits, fanned four and walked three batters.
Womack had an RBI double, Shinall stroked a two-baggere and scored a run, George doubled and scored once while Felton drilled a single and scored a run. Lauren Smith laced a single, Beach had an RBI while Campbell scored once.
BIC began its week with a 10-0 loss to Rector.
Riverside returns to action Monday when they host Bay. The Lady Rebels travel to Rector Tuesday before closing out the regular season by hosting Cedar Ridge on Wednesday. Riverside will begin 2A-3 district tournament play Thursday at Marked Tree.
